This park is great. I love walking around this area. There is never a dull moment. I always want to come here on a nice day. The sun is always out when I arrive. I usually bring my dog and she runs around all day long. I miss living here because of this park. Thanks for all the good memories!
Great recreation place to visit. Great fishing, boating, swimming, & camping. There is a fee for entry, but it's really worth it.
Very full campground. Has a lot of potential, but the camp hosts don't seem to be taking a lot of care to insure cleanliness. We stayed 4 nights in a lakeside campsite. The first morning we found what appeared to be vomit in the sink of the ladies restroom. Even after the restroom was "cleaned", we found that there still seemed to be a film of dirt on the sinks. At one point there was a very large puddle of urine on the floor and that stayed there all day. One morning, there was feces on the wall and back edge of the toilet. Obviously , these are indications of the kinds of people who stayed at the campground and not the fault of the camp hosts, but even when cleaned, the restrooms were not clean. It was really disgusting and no one in our group plans to come back. It is very sad , as the campsites are roomy and the lake was a lot of fun , although there was not even close to enough beach for all the guests in the park to enjoy it. Very disappointed.
A crown jewell on the plains. Jackson Lake State Park is an extremely popular Colorado State Park during the spring and summer months. Jackson is a storage reservior for farmers in the area. If the water flows in and keeps up with the demand of the farmers, then the lake is able to support the many, many, many water skiers and water sports enthusiasts who come to enjoy this oasis on the plains. If it's low, then it can get really crowded really quick on the weekends. On a side note when the lake is low, the sandy beaches on the south, and west side of the lake are exposed. The boat ramp is always busy on the weekends, so get your boat in as early as you can to avoid long lines. Fishing is also very popular here, and there is even a dirt bike / 4 wheeler vehicle area on the south end.
We took our son there today for swimming, sand castles, and relaxation. I liked the idea of heading north east because I didn't want to have the same idea as everyone else in Denver. Driving there was very enjoyable and we loved being in farm country. The beach was very small, but we enjoyed it. The people around us were nice and the water was warm! It did smell a bit like fish, but I assumed it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I would definitely return for another get away from the city!
